Hearing Aid Services

Hearing Aid Fitting

Hearing loss is unique for each person and hearing aids are not a one-size fits all. The main purpose of hearing aid fitting is to ensure that patients are getting the most optimized experience possible based on how the device is fitted and programmed.

Real Ear Measurement

The gold standard for accurate hearing aid fitting is real ear measurement. The information provided by this method provides audiologists with the most optimal settings to maximize performance at every level of pitch and frequency.

Hearing Aid Batteries

Hearing aids need a steady power supply in order to function properly. Your hearing aids require a steady power supply in order to work properly because even subtle changes in power output can affect performance, clarity, and volume control. Different hearing aids require different types of batteries — based on the size and power requirements of the hearing aid — to work properly. There are many variables that determine how long your battery will power your hearing aids.

Doctors Hearing Care offers a wide range of hearing services to evaluate and treat hearing loss focusing on individual needs. Every person, regardless of age, is given the opportunity to communicate and interact with others to the best of their ability.

Hearing Tests

Hearing tests are an essential part of hearing health. A hearing evaluation consists of several tests to determine the status of a person’s overall hearing status. Doctors Hearing Care uses state-of-the-art machines and equipment to thoroughly evaluate the inner, middle, and outer ear, along with some of the neural pathways associated with hearing. As Doctors of Audiology, our patients are assured that all hearing tests are performed by the most trained professionals in the industry.

What to expect during a hearing evaluation?

A comprehensive hearing evaluation will start ff with a detailed case history, followed by a visual examination of the outer ear through an otoscope. Sensitivity for tones and speech will also be measured. Testing for middle and inner ear function may be performed as necessary.

How is hearing tested in newborns?

Before newborns leave the hospital, they are given either an auditory brainstem response (ABR) screening or an otoacoustic emissions (OAE) test. These hearing evaluations are electrophysiologic, which means that they do not require a voluntary response from the newborn. The results of the newborn hearing tests are either Pass or Refer. In most hospital settings, babies can only be screened twice in the hospital. If the screening result for the second time still falls under Refer, follow-up diagnostic tests should be performed. Doctors Hearing Care has audiologists who specialize in infant and pediatric hearing.

How long does a hearing test take?

On average, we allot 60-90 minutes for an initial audiological evaluation for adult patients. We want our evaluations to be as thorough as possible and we do not want to rush. For pediatric hearing tests, we schedule 45 minutes to allow plenty of time to review and discuss the results with the parents/guardians.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss Treatment

Sensorineural hearing loss is an irreversible condition. If you are diagnosed with this type of hearing loss, the best solution would have to be hearing aids in order restore the sense of hearing as closely as possible. For more severe sensorineural hearing loss, cochlear implants or bone-anchored hearing aids may be recommended.

Menieres Disease Treatment

Meniere’s disease is linked to hearing loss and balance problems. Audiologists at Doctors Hearing Care are trained to diagnose Meniere’s disease and can provide support and services to manage symptoms as necessary.

Ear Wax Removal

Earwax is a natural secretion that protects the ears from dirt and other objects. However, having too much earwax can be obstructive, itchy and unhygienic. Professional earwax removal is recommended to remove any excess wax from your ears to remove buildup which could lead to more serious complications like infection or hearing loss.

Tinnitus Evaluation

Tinnitus is characterized by a persistent ringing in one or both ears that is usually only heard by the affected person. Tinnitus varies in frequency and severity. According to the American Tinnitus Association, an estimated 50 million Americans suffer from occasional bouts of tinnitus.

Audiological testing and a comprehensive evaluation by an audiologist will rule out possible medical factors that could be triggering or contributing to tinnitus. Since tinnitus symptoms are unique in nature, an in-depth audiological evaluation is needed to help us create a personalized treatment plan.

What causes tinnitus?

Tinnitus can be caused by a variety of factors, but the most common cause of tinnitus is linked to exposure to loud noise for a long period of time. In this case, tinnitus may be accompanied by hearing loss.

Is there a cure for tinnitus?

Currently, there is no specific cure for tinnitus. At Doctors Hearing Care, we will identify potential causes of tinnitus symptoms and find a way to reduce the impact of tinnitus on your daily life. Medications may be given to alleviate the symptoms. Relaxation methods, counseling, and noise maskers may also be included in the treatment plan.

Our audiologists have the knowledge, training, and experience to provide tinnitus patients with treatment methods that can help lessen the impact of tinnitus. In several cases, the distressing combination of tinnitus and hearing loss can be relieved with AGX® hearing technology.

What tinnitus treatments are available?

The primary treatment for tinnitus combined with hearing loss is the use of a personal hearing system or hearing aids for tinnitus. These can significantly improve hearing and reduce the perception of tinnitus. There are also other treatment options, including:

AGX hearing technology: A preferred treatment for those who experience hearing loss, which can improve overall hearing ability and reduce the perception of tinnitus.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT): TRT is a combination of counseling and sound therapy, which changes the brain’s neural signals and weakens the perception of tinnitus, allowing our patients to live their daily life without the annoying disturbances of tinnitus sounds.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: This is a type of counseling that alters or conditions the body’s emotional reaction to tinnitus by shifting negative thought patterns to help relieve stress and anxiety.
