Hearing Aids

Hearing aids are devices that help people with hearing loss to hear better. There are different types and styles of hearing aids, and they can be used in different ways to suit each person’s individual needs.

Hearing aids can make a big difference to the quality of life for people with hearing loss. These devices can help you to communicate better with family and friends, and to participate more fully in activities at home, work and leisure.

There are different types of hearing aids available, and the type that is best for you will depend on your hearing loss, lifestyle and budget. Our audiologists at Doctors Hearing Care will be able to advise you on the best type of hearing aid for your individual needs.

Types of Hearing Aids

There are many different types of hearing aids. Learn about the benefits of each type, and find the best one for your needs.

Invisible

Invisible hearing aids sit inside your ear and are not easily seen. They are very small and have advanced digital technology. Invisible hearing aids are custom-fitted to your ear canal. They do not have external tubes or wires.

Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC)

A completely-in-the-canal hearing aid is the smallest and least visible type. It is molded to fit inside your ear canal and improves mild to moderate hearing loss in adults.

In-the-Canal (ITC)

ITC hearing aids are custom-molded and fits partly in the ear canal. This style is designed to improve mild to moderate hearing loss in adults. Unlike larger hearing aid styles, in the canal hearing aids are less visible in the ear.

In-the-Ear (ITE)

There are two types of in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids. One type is a full shell, which covers most of the bowl-shaped area of your outer ear. The other type is a half shell, which only fills the lower part. Both styles are helpful for people with mild to severe hearing loss and are available with directional microphones (two microphones for better hearing in noise).

Receiver-in-Canal

Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) hearing aids are smaller than regular BTE hearing aids. They are easy to use and can still have many features. They can be worn comfortably behind the ear like regular BTEs.

Behind-the-Ear (BTE)

BTE aids sit behind or on top of the outer ear. The sound goes down the ear canal and into your ear with a custom-fit earmold or a dome style. There are different colors and designs to choose from so you can find one that matches your hair or skin tone, or that has a design you like.

Hearing Aids for Tinnitus

Hearing aids can help relieve tinnitus by making louder background noises to cover up the sounds of tinnitus. Many different brands of hearing aids have this technology. Some have it built into the hearing aids, others have an app, and some companies offer both.

Hearing aids are considered to be an investment, hence, choosing the right one entails thorough decision-making and weighing of pros and cons. Doctors Hearing Care is an authorized provider of major hearing aid brands known for their world-class performance and updated hearing solutions.
